STEMawake is strengthening practical STEM education in Cameroon by supporting teachers with hands-on training, classroom strategies, and accessible methods adapted to real school contexts. STEMawake has continued its commitment to improving STEM education by organizing practical training activities that help teachers build confidence in delivering more engaging and learner-centered lessons. The initiative focuses on supporting educators with methods that make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics more active, accessible, and relevant for students. In many school environments, teachers work with limited materials, limited training opportunities, and growing classroom demands. Even when educators are highly committed, they do not always have the support needed to introduce practical STEM experiences in ways that are simple, effective, and realistic within their school context. As a result, many lessons remain heavily theoretical, leaving students with fewer opportunities to experiment, explore, and apply what they learn. STEMawake’s training approach is designed to respond to this challenge in a practical way. During the sessions, teachers are introduced to low-cost activities, classroom engagement techniques, collaborative learning methods, and simple demonstrations that can help make STEM subjects more interactive. The emphasis is not on expensive equipment or ideal conditions, but on useful strategies that teachers can adapt to their own classrooms. The training sessions also create space for peer exchange and reflection. Teachers are able to share challenges, discuss what works in their schools, and learn from one another while testing new ideas together. This collaborative dynamic helps strengthen confidence and encourages a culture of continuous improvement in teaching practice. By investing in teachers, STEMawake is investing in students as well. When educators feel better equipped, learners benefit from stronger classroom experiences, clearer explanations, more practical activities, and a learning environment that encourages curiosity and participation. Teacher support remains one of the most sustainable ways to improve educational quality over time. This work reflects STEMawake’s belief that strong STEM education depends not only on student motivation, but also on the preparation and support of the adults guiding them. With the right tools and encouragement, teachers can help transform STEM learning from something distant and intimidating into something practical, meaningful, and engaging. As the organization continues to expand its impact, teacher capacity development remains an important part of its long-term vision for more inclusive and effective STEM education in Cameroon.
